Tirana Center Modern App – THE NEST is located at 8 Rruga Hamid Shijaku, in the central part of Tirana. Several of the city’s principal cultural and historic attractions are within the surrounding central districts and can be reached on foot, depending on the chosen route.
Pazari i Ri, or the New Bazaar, is one of the closest areas of interest. Centered on Avni Rustemi Square, it combines a covered food market with nearby streets containing restaurants, cafés, and small shops. The market is associated with fresh produce and traditional food products, while the surrounding area provides a view of everyday urban life in central Tirana.
Skanderbeg Square forms the main civic space of the capital. It contains the equestrian monument to Skanderbeg, Albania’s national hero, and is surrounded by important public and cultural buildings. Visitors can also see the nearby Et’hem Bey Mosque, an Ottoman-period mosque known for its painted interior decoration. As an active religious building, access to the mosque may be subject to visitor rules and religious observances.
- Bunk’Art 2: An underground historical museum near Skanderbeg Square, housed in a former Cold War-era bunker. Its exhibitions address political persecution, surveillance, and the experience of Albania’s communist period.
- National Historical Museum: Located on Skanderbeg Square, this museum presents Albania’s history through archaeological objects, religious art, historical documents, and material from the twentieth century. Its large façade is marked by a prominent mosaic depicting national historical themes.
- Tirana Castle: The remains of the former fortress are now part of a pedestrian area with restaurants, cafés, and shops. Sections of the old walls and archaeological features remain visible among the newer urban development.
To the east of the central square, the Tanners’ Bridge is a preserved stone Ottoman-era footbridge. It once formed part of a route used by traders and craftspeople and is now a small historic landmark integrated into the modern street network. The bridge offers a brief look at Tirana’s pre-modern infrastructure.
The House of Leaves, near the central boulevard, occupies a former residence and later state-security building. Its museum exhibitions document surveillance, communications control, and political repression during Albania’s communist era. Together with Bunk’Art 2, it provides historical context for the country’s recent past, although the two museums present that history through different buildings and exhibition approaches.
